This shoot is based off of my all time favorite RHCP music video - WARPED. I am really happy with how these photos turned out. We shot it in an old barn - one that belonged to my grandparents when I was growing up, so I had spent a lot of time in it when my sisters and I would come to visit. We did this shoot late at night to make it nice and dark. I had to retire the wig after the shoot because of the amount of black paint that got on it. It was well worth it.

Influenced by Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Otherside" Music Video which was influenced by Robert Wiene's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which was influenced by German expressionist art. Whew! This is number 4 out of 12 of my Red Hot Chili Peppers Photo Shoot project. Jon and I had a great time building the set for this one.
The third installment - Higher Ground. Flea famously wore home-made stuffed animal pants for years. They are featured in the Higher Ground music video. I had a lot of fun putting the outfit for this shoot together. We shot it in front of a mural outside of the middle school here in Watkins Glen. (On a day when there were no students of course.) It was great. The cat came around the corner meowing, wanting to join the fun.
This is the second installment of my Red Hot Chili Peppers photo project. All taken by Jon Meyer, of course. Instead of being based off of a music video like the rest of the planned shoots, this one is three different Chili Pepper looks combined. The first being the obvious Lakers jersey - the band is known to be die-hard Laker fans and are often seen sporting a jersey on stage. The second is the 'RED' helmet - they did a photo shoot for their Stadium Arcadium Album insert each wearing either a Red or Yellow helmet with Red Hot Chili Peppers on the front and antennas sticking out of the top. And the third is of course the tube socks. (I don't feel that I need to explain this one, ha ha, google 'RHCP Tube Socks' and you will see what inspired this.) Thanks so much to the HARVEST CAFE and LOUNGE in Montour Falls for letting us shoot!

This is the first installment of a project that Jon and I are working on over the next year. I have always been a huge Red Hot Chili Peppers fan. Anthony and Flea in particular have been extremely influential in the way that I view myself and the world around me. I will be doing 12 different photo shoots - all Chili Pepper themed, and most based on particular RHCP music videos. They are known to combine masculinity with femininity, and a general comfort within their own skin. I hope to portray these things in my photos, while showing my appreciation for their art through some of my own (and of course with Jon's wonderful talent and support.)
This first shoot is based on their music video for "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie"
When Jon and I got to New York, we decided to shoot a short film starring myself and my Mamgu (grandma). She is soooo wonderful, and talented, and we knew that she would be phenomenal in our film. I love Dortha - to this day, one of my favorite projects.
